DD has just turned 5 and is sure lots of kids in her class are losing them already, but i thought it was a bit early for that.

I thought so too but there were kids in DD's reception class with gaps! Quite normal, if a little early perhaps.

5 is not unusual. DD1 is 7 and has just lost her first. She is the last in her class to do so.

bizzi · 08/07/2006 08:59

ds was 5, dd1 7, dd2 is in year 1 and most of her class have lost at least one but she hasn't, she's desperate for a visit from the tooth fairy!

crazydazy · 08/07/2006 09:16

DD (6) lost her bottom front two about 6 months ago, she lost her top 3 all in the space of about two weeks you can imagine the gap at the front and then she lost her bottom right hand side front tooth yesterday.

She's got more bloody money than me

crazydazy · 08/07/2006 09:17

I meant to add as soon as a tooth becomes loose she will not leave it alone until its out so I think thats why all her teeth have come out so rapidly.

BettySpaghetti · 08/07/2006 09:47

dd IS 6.5 AND HASN'T LOST ANY YET -SHES PROBABLY ONE OF THE FEW IN HER CLASS THAT HASN'T LOST ONE YET (oops-sorry)

ja9 · 08/07/2006 10:10

i taught 6 / 7 year olds this past year and there were teeth coming out on what felt like a daily basis!

LilacWine · 08/07/2006 11:16

thanks all. i thought i'd be another 2 years before it would start!
i can't remember myself... does it actually hurt to lose them or to get the new teeth coming through?

dd1 (aged 5) has just lost her first bottom tooth (literally! - since dh told her to swig out the blood and she spat it all out including the tooth which merrily got washed down the plug-hole!) Floods of tears until I explained that drain teeth get double the amount of money from tooth fairies (funny feeling might be setting myself up here)

nooka · 10/07/2006 22:39

Lol at Hex's quick thinking! My dd has all four front big teeth well established at 5 1/2, whilst her cousin has only just lost the first top one at 6 1/2. There was a thread about this a while back that suggested it is related to how soon the baby teeth came through in the first place.

Eulalia · 10/07/2006 22:44

ds1 lost his first a month before he turned 6. he's only lost the front 4 so far (will be 7 next week)
