7mo v grumpy and pooing undigested food (sorry)

Hi - 7mo son had his two bottom teeth through about 3-4 weeks ago and was very grumpy and clingy for about a week. Things settled back down and he's been completely happy but for the past two days his daytime naps have been almost non-existent because he'll just roll around in his cot then eventually cry (but in a really angry shouty way, not just a tired cry as he goes off to sleep), so as a result he's really grumpy.

Also, not sure if it's related (AND TMI ALERT!) but his poo this morning was basically completely undigested food - actual chunks of carrot about 0.5cm and grains of quinoa. Didn't seem to bother him when he did it, but that doesn't seem right does it?

Would his top teeth start coming through this early and be creating this grumpiness, could it be a digestive issue making him unhappy (has dairy, egg and peanut allergy but every new food is being monitored and no reactions seem to have happened) or do I just assume it's a crap few days and dig into the 6 portion treacle tart once he's gone to bed in an hour?!

Thanks
x

Personally I wouldn't worry about 1/2 cm chunks unless is was happening with literally very poo. Can't help much as to what it might be though.. Could be any number or harmless but tiring things xxxxxxxgood luck!

I wouldn't be that worried about the undirected food. I noticed that between 6 months and a year it was quite obvious he started to digest more & it made me believe in the 'food is for fun till they're one' mantra.

Go for the treacle tart (with cream) & if it doesn't improve in a week go & have a chat with your GP.

Thanks. This morning's is normal again, and the undigested one followed his first attempt at 'eating' carrot sticks rather than mash so I guess it just went straight through.
The treacle tart was the perfect remedy (for me)!

Things like quinoa will go through partially undigested - most high fibre wholegrain and legume type foods will. Babies don't digest that kind of food as easily as adults.

Yes, his digestive system's only just kicking in and starting to work, so you'll see that stuff. Try him on sweetcorn. Comes out whole! Grin

The grumpiness may just be the normal 7-9 month grump about wanting to crawl, eat, talk and so on, and not being able to!

gretagrape · 05/11/2013 08:44

I think sweetcorn is supposed to be one of those almost pointless foods in terms of nutrition as it comes out whole in adults as well!

Think you are right - he's still at the "revving up on all fours" stage and gets very stroppy if I pass him something, like he wants to reach it on his own!

That is true. It has practically no nutritional value which is why they have to add loads of extra vitamins to cornflakes.
