digital camera to record my ds growing up

sorry if this is the wrong forum but want to buy a decent digital camera to take a record of ds growing up - any tips gratefully received

We bought a fancy digital camera with the arrival of dc1 in mind. however we've hardly used it! the iPad is so much easier and more convenient... and much easier to email photos to relatives etc.

I would have a proper camera as it is a lot more versatile than an iPad. A good starter DSLR is the Canon 1100D. You can't go wrong with this and will take a good video too. Have just bought one for DD for about £259 with an 18-55 mm Canon lens. I would look for a 35-80 lens if possible though as you can buy body and lens separately. Nikon 3100 is also good but lenses may be more money. These cameras will give a lot more pleasure than an iPad photo believe me and you can be a lot more creative with all the features.
