they're all basically the same. makes no difference.

i'd buy whichever is cheapest and readily available from nearby shops

YouAreMySunShine271 · 01/11/2013 12:59

I always thought they were pretty much the same but after a review at the doctors today they recommended changing to Aptimal! I just don't want to change if there is not much difference.

there really isn't!
sadly the response from your doctor only shows how much hold formula manufacturers have over them sometimes :(

Trying a different formula to see if it suits your baby is a reasonable thing to do for an unsettled LO. Neither one of them is superior to the other though.

Noctilucent, I did not know that Shock

Aptamil in the past marketed themselves as the most "scientific" milk that's closest to breastmilk. It's no closer or better than any of the others, but the more sophisticated branding, name, packaging and the higher price are very persuasive. They used to aggressively market their products to the NHS (before rules were tightened on such things) and provide lots of freebies, talks to HCPs about why their milks were so brilliant etc. The effect was to create the myth that aptamil is the "best" milk, so you still hear doctors and midwives recommending it occasionally, even though the WHO Code specifically prohibits them from recommending one milk over another.

Truth is, they're all the same really. They may taste slightly different, but none is " better" than any other. Pick whichever one your baby likes.

Thanks for the info! I guess it's just babies preference then! Smile

Medics always say aptimel! I thought the Hipp one tasted slightly nicer. But I might have been imagining it.

YouAreMySunShine271 · 03/11/2013 19:24

Catchhimatwhat have you tried it? Shock

Medics are just as influenced by advertising and expert marketing as anybody else Hmm.

SunShine, have you not tried formula Wink? I know I have, deliberately and accidentally...

YouAreMySunShine271 · 03/11/2013 20:01

Maybe I should try it! The smell always puts me off!!Confused

It's just powdered cow's milk so if you've ever had dried milk in your coffee you're close Grin

Mamabear12 · 04/11/2013 09:13

Cow and gate takes longer to digest and keeps them full longer

YouAreMySunShine271 · 04/11/2013 09:28

I have changed milk to aptimal since Friday to see if it makes any difference. DD has since been having really mucus poop and slightly green?! Is this normal or is milk not agreeing? She has also got a cold and dribbling loads if that makes a difference! It's so confusing!! Confused

OP posts:
Catchhimatwhat · 04/11/2013 12:04

I tried some yes! And breastmilk! Maybe I am too curious. If I was out living in the wild if be dead after having a bad berry.

MarthasHarbour · 04/11/2013 12:09

We started DS on C&G and it made him really unsettled. So we switched to Aptamil, yes his poo was a bit mucusy and green at first so i think that is normal, however it settled down after a while and he was really content on Aptamil (we used the comfort milk but that is more expensive).

It is certainly up to the baby and what makes them happy Smile

YouAreMySunShine271 · 04/11/2013 14:34

Thanks marthasharbour! I've seen health visitor and she's put 7oz on so fingers crossedSmile
