7 week old sleeping pattern

Last night DS slept 7:30-1 (I was dead impressed)
Then 2:30-5:30 then 6:00-8:30

So 5.5 hours 3 hours and 2.5 hours

Is this a good pattern? Is he on the right tracks do you feel?

And any comparisons to babies of a similar age would be helpful!

He seems to wake a lot where I have to gently rock him and he nods off again

Sounds amazing to me! Although I had (and still have at 8 months Hmm) a very poor sleeper.

Sorry that was not a helpful message at all! Definitely sounds like he's on the right tracks though.

MamaPingu · 30/10/2013 10:38

Do you ever feel you kept them awake at times?

Sometimes when I turn over in bed I hear him start to stir, then I feel guilty incase I'm spoiling his sleep!

I must add, that is one of his best nights! He doesn't always treat me haha Smile

my 7 week old is similar... last night 10 till 2am, then 4 til 7am and then snoozy but annoyingly loud (!) till 9am. to my horror he seemed as though his gums were hurting him in the small hours - i hope he's not getting teething symptoms yet!

I think the phrases "7 week old" and "sleeping pattern" are oxymorons! :)

Be prepared to spot a number of "patterns" over the coming years that disapper as soon as you spot them :(

We definitely disturbed DS at times. He was, and still is, a light sleeper. Up till he was around 12 weeks DH and I actually took turns of sleeping in the living room with him. I'd go to bed around 7pm Hmm and sleep til 1am then get up and Dh would then go to bed.

Baby was just so noisy himself and if we got up to the loo or for a drink etc he'd be awake and screaming. He's suffered from reflux though which I think disturbed his sleep badly. It's actually only now that it's improving a bit that his sleep in slowly getting a bit better. But for 7 weeks old sounds like not too bad a night. And hopefully he'll lengthen the time between feeds etc and gradually drop night feeds. I hear that's the theory anyway Wink a relatives baby slept a bit like yours pretty much from the start and by 3 months was sleeping 8pm -6am. Not jealous at all me!

MamaPingu · 30/10/2013 11:45

Ah, my little boy has reflux too which caused a lot of stress for the pair of us. He was over tired from waking up every hour screaming and I was knackered!

His sleeping was shocking from then on but seems tonnes better now Smile

And I think I know what you mean about the patterns disappearing haha. Occasionally he has a few terrible nights and I'm there pulling my hair out reminiscing about the good nights Grin

I think he will be a better sleeper once he's in his own room!

My DS was 7 weeks old yesterday and is starting to go about 5-6 hours between feeds at night - has done so for the past week but as pp said this is susceptible to change!

An example of a night is:

Bottle (ff) roughly between 7:30pm-8:30pm
Bath and story then bed.
Sleep 8:30pm-9:30pm
Bottle 1:30am-2:30am
Sleep 2:00am-3:00am
Bottle 6:00am-7am then we're up for the day, and he generally has a two hour nap after some play time.

HTH
