4 year old - no volume control

Are all four year olds like this? DD has taken to shouting all the time. She is just so loud! I don't mean tantrummy or cross shouting (although she's an expert at that too), but normal conversation (or monologue) but at shouty volume.

We've only recently noticed the loudness, although she has always been one to air her thoughts somewhat stridently (usually relating to my body parts while in restaurant loos).

If this is common, how do you deal with it? Thanks.

My DS also 4, drives me crazy with this!!!
He used to do about 6 months ago as well but then it stopped, well reduced to a more manageable level!
Sometimes with my DS it's before getting a bold that's worse but no sign of one at present.
I get him to practice whispering, then talking quietly, loudly & then shouting to get him to hear the difference.
This has helped a bit so worth a try. Other than that it's just a give it time thing!
Sorry not to be more help.

Sorry I meant "before getting a cold".

Can you play voice regulation games with her? Not sure if they pre-exist in English, but in Dutch we have some songs where you sing something and then the child (or group of children) repeats in the same tone of voice (soft, loud, fast, slow, high, low). I think games like that help a lot with impulse control.

Also encourage her to shout and be loud outside, and then use an 'inside' voice when at home or inside a building.

I think it's one of those things that you can help along, but will just change gradually rather than from one day to the next.
