5 month old "finding voice".

I had a gorgeous giggly little boy until 3 days ago.

I appreciate that it is normal for him to find his voice at this age, but he seems to have found the voice of a drunken football hooligan from the 1980's who bellows incredibly loudly ALL day (still very smiley and content though) and also during the night- he managed 1 hour of continuous shouting last night at 3am whilst soundly asleep. Never knew babies could sleep talk.

Please can someone with more experience than me tell me how long this is likely to last, and give me any tips on how to manage this as I feel like we cant go out anywhere in public as people are just staring at me whilst he shouts away, and no form of distraction helps- if he gets excited the shouting just gets even louder!

Miaow that's hilarious...!

My dd is 7 months and went through a phase around 5 months of a really high pitched screetch...not much I could do about it other than look on enviously as the dog beat a hasty retreat...however it didn't last long - a couple of weeks and she moved onto the next sound.

I wouldn't worry about what other people think...if you get any disapproving looks I would be tempted just to join in with him...

My son went through a stage at this age of sounding like a pterodactyl for a few weeks. I got really worried the neighbours would think I was harming him! Like all these things it passes.

I hate to say it, but there's much more in store than a bit of bellowing once they start talking!

I'm currently going through this with my 4 month old! She has discovered the screech. It is deafening! She seems to love it though. I'm hoping this phase doesn't last too much longer...

Haha- I posted the exact same thread when my dd was 5 months old, a few years ago. The sudden increase in volume from cute baby cooing and gagagogo noises took me by surprise. It passed. Like everything passes.

Haha my 5month old DS has found his voice too! Well more of an escalating squeal that sounds like an approaching siren. It's so loud but he seems so pleased with himself when he does it, it just makes him more excited so gets louder and louder!

My 7 month old DD is still enjoying doing her high-pitched shrieks and will do them anytime, anywhere - supermarket, 13 hour flight etc - so don't feel like you have to stop going out OP!

peggyundercrackers · 26/10/2013 12:57

the squealing will only get louder as they get older - our shouts/squeals all the time and is always laughing - it definitely doesn't stop us going anywhere with her.
