7mo (by weeks) not sitting?

She's fabulous at everything else - really good crawler, roller, very inquisitive - but she's just not cracked sitting. Her back seems really weak and she just flops to the side.

Should I contact HV?

Milkhell - my 7.5m DD is exactly the same!!! Hadn't occurred to me to be worried, though now I think about it all the other babies I know can sit... oh dear! Can anyone advise?

FWIW my DD, like yours, is great at rolling and always trying to stand (in fact in her case I have been wondering if this is why she can't sit, because she never wants to and always tries to stand instead).

Grin oh great! My anxiety has stoked someone else's! Sorry Emerald - I'm sure they're fine. X

My dd will be 7 months on Friday. She can sit for a minute or two unaided but can't pull herself into a sitting position. She can roll onto her side but not turn over and is nowhere near crawling. I'm not worried at all. She's a strong vocal little bugger. If you try to pull her up into a sitting position she stands instead. All babies are different.

DD didn't sit up by herself till she was 8m, but DS2 is doing it at 6m - they're all different. Gross motor skills have a pretty broad range of 'normal' and you don't need to worry at 7m.

CreatureRetorts · 24/10/2013 06:49

Does she get plenty of floor time? So instead of a bouncy chair, let her roll on the floor more? My dd confused me - she could crawl before sitting but got there. Ds was the other way around (and crawled earlier)

BillStickersIsInnocent · 24/10/2013 06:50

Neither of mine sat until they crawled at about 8/9 months. DD started walking at around 12 months, DS walked at 16 months. They're all different.

redcaryellowcar · 24/10/2013 06:53

My ds didn't sit until 9m, and crawled shortly after, he is very tall so think had a lot more to organise in his head about centre of gravity etc, also walked around 18m, which some people think is late, but we saw hip specialist (as initial steps were asymmetric but he said they don't worry about children not walking until they are 2.
If you are concerned pop along to hv clinic and havea chat with hv.

DD didn't sit unaided until 10 months. My family are late doing everything - None of the children walked before 14 months. Don't worry about it and don't let other people's competitive parenting make you feel inadequate.

haloflo · 24/10/2013 07:00

Do you mean 30 weeks? This is only just over 6 months. Don't worry one bit - speak to your HV if he can't sit at 9 months. AFAIK that is the age they should have reached the sitting milestone. Contact her if you have other worries too of course. Or just pop into clinic I'm sure they won't mind you asking.

headoverheels · 24/10/2013 07:01

If your DD is 7m in weeks do you mean 6.5m in months, ie 28 weeks? Sounds perfectly normal. Start counting in months!
