playtime with an 8 month

my DD will be 8 months next week and I don't really know what to do with her, I do get on the floor and play with her a bit, sing couple nursery rhymes, blow kisses on her belly, make silly goo goo gaa gaa noises...but what can I do with her?
anything arty an 8 month is allowed to do? any games we can try to play?

she plays quite happily on her own but I feel guilty a lot of the time that I should be playing with her instead of on her own......

thanks for advise in advanceSmile

IIRC this is the age for peek-a-boo.

And I hope you blow raspberries, not just kisses on her belly? Grin

Definitely finger painting! Strip her to her nappy, strap her in the high chair, put an apron on yourself and get a bath ready. Make sure the paint is non-toxic and washable as it will end up in her mouth! Oh, and keep the camera handy for cute photos.

Other messy play could be cornflour in her highchair tray or shaving foam. Try putting small things like peas/sweetcorn into the flour or foam so she has to pick them up - developing fine motor skills.

Textures, make a box of everyday stuff like a yoghurt pot with dry lentils in it, make a card top and it's a shaker. A nail brush. Feathers (clean!). Bits and pieces she can explore.

Have fun!

Musical instruments.

Definitely finger painting.

At this age I bought loads of nice fabric - different colours and textures - and she loved playing together with that - throwing it in the air and letting them float down, hiding each other and things etc.

Blowing and catching bubbles.

Water play - pouring things in the bath.

Messy sensory play with jelly.

id love to do finger painting but she will just eat it...everything she touches goes straight in the mouth...guess that's why we don't do anything like that.

we do peek-a-boo. I even hide on the floor behind the sofa, peek out, say peek a boo, and hide again, when she chases me a crawl into the next room and peek a boo again.

I'd love to read to her but she attacks the books so can't at the moment

she can crawl really fast, sit herself up, stand up, sit down from standing, she's been trying the last few days to stand unaided, keeps landing on her bum though bless her.

Buy a beach ball from the proud shop - my 10mo Ds has loads of fun with his. Wee sit on the floor and push it to each other. I hold his fingers and he 'walks ' round tenge house kicking it. I play peekaboo beh

BotBotticelli · 22/10/2013 22:09

Oops posted too soon. I play peekaboo behind it. I bang on it like a bongo and encourage him to do the same. Best quid I have spent!
