Nine month old still cries without tears

My DS is nine months old now and has never had tears when he cries. I know this is normal for up to around four months from what i have read but i thought he would have some by now.

I have been watching carefully recently and even when crying quite hysterically, his eyes sometimes look a little red and glazed but never full of tears and never does a tear fall.

His eyes dont look dry, red, sore or have any discharge. They also dont water at other times.

Does anyone have any experience of why this might be? Im pretty worried about it.

I think it is normal?

I've never questioned it anyway.

My DS is 11 months and doesn't cry tears.

His brother didn't.

I don't know what age he did - it might have been when he had his first real reason to cry - a bump to his head which split it open. He was 2.

My DS1's dad has never ever cried tears, although he has cried. I just remembered that!

We've had this recently with my DD & health visitor said it could be dehydration. I was very offended at the time but think what she was trying to say was more watered down drinks as my DD would only drink her milk. After a couple of weeks of more water etc, she did cry tears and I had to eat my words!

Ooh thank you - two very interesting perspectives there! I was wondering about the dehydration thing as i do sometimes wonder if i need to get more water down him, but from what i had read, its only normally a sign of dehydration if theyve been really ill or they have suddenly stopped having tears. Whereas he never has. Had you dd ever cried tears previously?

I did speak to the hv team but she said it was unusual and to make an appointment to see the gp. Its left me worried what the problem (if any) could be though
