dd (6) exhausted by school.

dd is 6.3 in year 2.
she gets very tired after school, cant do afterschool activities and gets overtired and emotional, crying over everything.
by Friday she is a wreck, crying like a toddler.
I thought she would have got used to it by now but she hasn't.
she is in bed by 7.30pm normally asleep by 7.45 and wakes naturally at 7, sometimes earlier.
is school that tiring?

Since she's sleeping well, could she be struggling with the workload in year 2? I'd have a chat to her teacher if I were you and see how she is at the moment.

Year 2 is quite a big step up from yr1. My dd2 (6.3) really struggled for the first few weeks and has only just settled. She's done no after school activities this term yet and had plenty of melt downs. Her teacher told me lots of children take a whole term to get used to it. Fx your dd will be fine soon.

how is her diet?
have you talked to the teachers?

we have had a parents evening already and her work is fine. she loves school.
she is eating for England at the moment although seems to have gone off meat mostly just eating her potatoes/pasta/veg/fruit.
maybe she needs some vitamins?
I think the effort of school is just too much for her emotionally. she is quite young for her age and one of the youngest in her year too.

Assuming you're in England, I always find the penultimate week before half term the worst though, don't you? My DCs are exhausted this week.

I will also PM you about something to watch out for.

Think it must be the workload in year 2 because the sleep sounds good.

Wish that starting reception this year had made my dd a bit more tired. Despite all the promises about how tired she would be, she still needs to do something else after school (park, swimming lesson etc) in order to be remotely tired by bedtime.

But she has always been like this.

yes its the last week of term and its been a long first term, more hard work this year and swimming weekly, 2 pe lessons and running daily so they are really wearing them out.
she has been teary over the weekend too so im wondering if she is having a growth spurt and is just worn down.
roll on half term Smile
