11 month old has been ill constantly since August - normal?

DD has had back to back minor illnesses since the end of August - first it was a really bad cold, then another cold/cough, then a tummy bug, then another cold, then hand foot and mouth last week. Now she seems to have a vomiting bug (as well as still having a cold and teething of course too). Poor girl, it seems like no sooner has she got over one thing but the next starts up.

She is my first and isn't at nursery so doesn't spend that much time with other adults or children - we go to a few baby groups but that's for max 40 mins a day and she doesn't really touch the other babies anyway. DH and I had the cold that she got in August but we haven't had any of the other bugs she's had.

I'm just wondering at what point this stops being the normal winter run of bugs and starts being something to worry about? She was premature (6 weeks) so I do worry about her health a bit more as a result.

So, normal or not?

Well they do seem to get bug after bug, until their immune system has had them all.

thought that might be the case... but then why don't other babies I know seem to be going through the same thing? I guess at least she's building up antibodies...

thanks for replying.

well do keep checking with your GP, and HV because if she does have something else going on then it best to have checked everything,

It does feel like it is back to back at that age, don't worry the breaks in between do get longer.

thanks! beginning to feel like a nuisance at the GP Smile

My DD is almost the same age and has had gastroenteritis, then teething, then the cold, then teething, then diarrohea (for 3 weeks), then a worse cold, now teething again all in the space of a month and a half! Poor thing can't get a break. The GP says it's totally normal (although unfortunate) and just to treat each illness as it comes.

Normal from my experience.

By the way, put 2 or 3 vests on her, covered by other clothes and by 2/3 bibs. Try to keep her chest warm and a hat on as much as possible.

thanks both. Molly I will dress her in more clothes, thanks.
