Crawling - revving himself up - normal way to start?!

Hi. 6.5mo has this week got himself up onto all fours and rocks from front to back as if he's revving himself up to get going! If he does move at all though, it's backwards!

I sort of expected that he'd pull himself along on his tummy then graduate to getting more upright - is this how they start on the crawling journey?

Totally normal! Both of mine did that.

Absolutely normal. Both my DD and DS did this. We thought they looked hilarious doing this and it always ended up with all of us giggling! Enjoy this stage. You'll miss it when they are walking.

Mine did this. Graduated to a knees together bunny hop which was brilliant! It is really complicated trying to coordinate your limbs

9Oh yes. DS1 did this, backwards everywhere for a bit then all of a sudden he found forward gear and there was no stopping him. DS2 is commando crawling all the way though - no hands and knees for him. And at 9+months he's trying to pull up on various bits of furniture. Its all good, there's no one way thats right. Just wait til he works out he can get away from mummy at speed! Then you're in trouble

It was hilarious - when it happened the first time me and my husband just went "oh my god"! I realise now how short the time is that I can carry on just strapping him into various things and plonking him where I want him!

We had the rocking backwards and forwards that quickly graduated to uncoordinated commando crawling. Then one day he just sped off and surprised us all.

All of mine did this.

I'd put anything breakable away or up high, cos once he gets going thats it!
