This evening after a minor dispute over television my 5-year-old DD, who I had removed to the hall for some time out, headbutted me on the nose. I was really shocked and angry and shouted at her to get upstairs louder than I think she has ever heard before (I'm not generally a shouter).
I left her for ten minutes or so then went up to talk it through. She was practically hysterical, apologised profusely and promised me she would never do anything like it again. We talked about what else she could do if she was feeling angry and she seemed to take it in, but I just don't know if there is something else I should be doing.
She is generally well behaved. She is bright and doing very
well at school. She seems to have lots of friends. She is however getting a bit cocky and I am concerned she is too ready to argue every point with me and her dad.
Any advice? Should I treat this as a one-off or should I be developing some new tougher parenting strategies to stop her veering off down the wrong track?
