Not Eating / Loss of Appetite in 16 mo old

Hi,

DD has suddenly lost her appetite. She loves her food normally so it's very strange.

On Friday night (after a very big dinner) she was sick twice about 1am and 2am. There was loads of vomit with lots of undigested bits of pasta (sorry). Ever since she has barely eaten. In the past three days since she vomited she has had maybe a couple of yoghurts, a tiny amount of breakfast cereal and a few rice cakes. A million miles away from what she would normally eat in a day. She is still drinking water and milk.

She hasn't got a temperature, nor seems unwell. She is still happy and playing well but just isn't eating. She is also paler than normal. She had her MMR jab on the Thursday afternoon and I understand that loss of appetite could be a side effect but more likely after about a week, and not 36hrs afterwards?

Any suggestions? I was thinking of taking her to the GP? Am I just worrying unnecessarily and it is a side effect from the vaccine, rather than anything else? Or is she starting to display signs of willpower and making choices but it seems very strange that she would go from eating so much to eating barely anything, not even breakfast which has been one spoonful of cereal :-(

Thanks
TOOIK

It could be that she's recovering from a virus which is still making her feel sick or perhaps that she's associating eating with the unpleasant sensation of feeling sick. I think it's highly unlikely that it's connected with the vaccination.

It is only going to become a battle of wills if you do something to make that happen. It will do her no harm to eat like a bird for a while and, as long as you just accept her doing that, she'll get over it and regain her normal appetite.

As long as she's getting enough to drink and has access to food when she does feel like eating she'll be fine.

Children can develop temporary lactose intolerance after having D&V so, if it continues for more than about a week, I'd take her to the GP to see if that's a possibility.

Thanks gold, I do think she might be associating the eating with being sick. There was a large amount of it and, bringing up undigested whole pasta must have been really sore. She does look paler than normal too. Will see how she is in a couple of days

There's obviously something bothering her and at 16 months, with a previously good appetite, I'd be talking to the GP.They don't suddenly stop eating for no reason.

I have an appt today at 4pm. I mused over it and it is,very unlike her to eat so little and all I am doing is really worrying about it. She has no temp though and is fine in every other way, just not eating :(
