DD (year 1) hanging out with "older" girls.. WWYD?

DD has just joined a new school in year 1. She knows one other girl in her class from before and they play together which is great!

She has also made friends with a couple of girls from year 2 in an after school club. DD says they play together and once I saw one of the girls greet and smile at her. But really? Do Yr 1 and 2 mix that much?

One of the year 2 girls snatched DDs hair clip today who then had to chase the girl to get it back. She also snatched my DD's friend's shoe and they had to catch it back. (and DD isn't into this type of cheeky wind up game)

Or when DD asked one of the girls what her name was (when they first met) that girl said: "guess" and when DD guessed right the girl said "no, that's not my name".

I guess what I am wondering is whether you reckon these "older" girls are teasing my DD? Is this type of play normal? Or am I just PFB?

If you made it so far Thank You! And would love some input...

I guess one of the yr 2 girls is quite friendly and the other one (who did the snatching and the name guessing) likes to wind up a bit more.

Yes it does sound like one of them is teasing your DD and no I don't think you are being PFB. I think it's down to personalities of individuals, rather than any age difference.

My DD (also yr1) has started playing with a few yr2 girls recently (she only mentioned it for the first time this week).

However in your case I would definately keep an eye on it as it does seem that they are not being hugely nice to her. However I never really say anything to the teacher unless my DC is upset by something, so if she is not bothered I would maybe find out who she likes in yr1 and talk about playing nicely etc.

I think a degree of mixing is very normal....don't worry too much but explain to DD that it's a good idea to make friends in her own class...ask her if there's anyone she'd like to have home for tea.

DD is in yr 1 and plays with kds from reception to yr two. I can't say I have ever givennit much thought!

It does sound as if they're teasing her and it isn't great, but sounds as if she's not upset by it and I would expect it to sort itself out. At the moment she is new so she's trying out different friendships. As she gets to know more people she will find the ones that are good and let the others go. Hopefully. I wouldn't intervene for now.
