2.5 year old grinds her teeth every time she goes near her baby sister

I have two girls - one 2.5 years and a 9 month old baby. They basically get on pretty well - smiles and tears and they seem fond of each other. However over the last 2 weeks the older one has started grinding her teeth every time she approaches her little sister. She might be saying something really sweet or offering her a pretend cake but her jaw is clenched and her teeth are grinding away. She doesn't do this at any other time. I have been known to grind my teeth when I'm stressed and even though she seems pretty happy I'm worried that she's hiding how stressed she is by the baby while hoping it's just a phase. Has anyone else lived through anything similar? Thanks!

Yes! My son is great with the baby but in every photo of them, he's got a jaw like desperate dan! We just give him lots of reassurance, let him also "be a baby", praise him on how good he is and tell him how much his brother loves him.

I noticed the other day that the clenching is far less. He is 3.5.

Thank you! It seems like we're unusual but not unique then.

I am bumping this as my dd (2.8) is doing the same. Hooliaaa is your dd still doing this? I am concerned dd is channeling some slight aggression through gritting her teeth. Anyone else have a dc who has done this?
