Do all toddlers get so covered in bruises, scrapes, scratches etc?

Ds is 2.4. Active, happy etc. Tonight in the bath I itemised his wounds... Please tell me this is normal?! :

Scrape on knee and elbow, from a fall at some point (or two falls perhaps?).
Multiple bruises around knees and shins.
Scratches on back of ankle - I can only assume he's been through bushes at some point with dh or childminder!
To top it all off, 2 slightly black eyes as a result of crashing into the pole of the basketball net at soft play (oh, the irony) today!

He looks like the walking wounded! None of it seems to bother him in the least with the exception of the scraped knee ... And even then only when he sees it! He's fine while wearing trousers so I suspect an element of playing it up for mum.

I know it is normal really , but I still find it disturbing!

Tell me your wounded stories so I feel better please!

Yup dd 2.1 has got a huge bruise on her cheek from face planting on a slide at soft play
A scratch on her chest/belly from her auntie trying and failing to catch her as she fell off the sofa
A bruise on her elbow from falling off the sofa
At least 6 bruises on both knees/shins from various bumps and falls
And a lovely bite mark on her arm where she bit herself after I took a yogurt off her.
She's actually quite unhurt compared to normal, she's abit of a daredevil.

Totally normal and all those injuries are the type and in the place you would expect for a child his age :)

Yep totally normal. Ds is 2.1 and seems to spend half of his time throwing his self off things, falling over or banging into stuff. His arms and legs are always bruised and he manages to bruise his bum even through the padding of a nappy.

yes, normal.
my 3yo legs are basically blue from ankle to knee with a plaster somewhere for scrapes/cuts.
I would worry if there where no bruises tbh.

DD 2.10 has;
A long green bruise on her forehead from running into the front door as I opened it when her dad came to pick her up.

Countless bruises on shins and knees from god knows what.

Scratches on both hands from the kitten.

Scratch inside ear from busy fingers.

Scratch and bruise on back from falling off her (play) horse

Bruise on her bum from falling at the pool today.

Bare in mind I have to catalogue these at nursery every day

DD2 is 12, she is still covered in bruises.

I used to worry about sending her to preschool her legs used to be so bruised.

On top of all the usual toddler antics. She used to swing across the monkey bars, straight into the ladder. Didn't care at all.

Now it's a combination of gymnastics and still being accident prone. No points for guessing the only member of the family to break things.

Mine didn't - he has saved them all for reception :)

This thread looks about half and half boy/girl, so no I really don't think that girls are less prone to getting a bit duffed up, especially toddlers who don't tend to think before they do, and where co-ordination hasn't really finished developing.

My two had their fair share of bumps and bruises and dd had a particular penchant for cutting her lip so that blood poured out in an alarming way.

I am considering making an advent calendar which has a photo of the different thing DD bangs her head on each day behind each door. I watch her closely, I really do, but it happens every sodding day.

Dd has already broken her leg and had her forehead glued after a nasty cut. She's just turned 2......

Yes very normal, my dd had a permanent bump on the middle of her forehead from age 1 to 2 from where she constantly ran and fell flat on her face!! This only improved when she finally figured out to put her hands out when running!!

Even now at 7yo her shins are covered in bruises, she is an out going little girl but I do sometimes think people must wonder if I am kicking her in the shins or something

DS1 in particular was always covered in bruises. The only comfort was he managed to injure himself every single day he was at nursery too and I had to sign the accident book at every pick up, so they could hardly point the finger at me. Now he's at school he often comes home with a "head injury" sticker or a "incident" slip.
The funny thing is despite this he has so far not had a single serious injury, just minor bumps, unlike my nephew who has had 2 fractures at age 2.

Heh heh! Ours (3YO DD) is always covered in bruises on knees, shins and back mostly. Bruises are aways from from bashing into things and crawling over toys (and my legs whch are bruise covered). She doesnt seem to notice when crawling over or sitting down hard on small hard toys and often bashes into things with her arms or legs whilst walking (or doing "ballet") around the house. She has had a few cut/scraped knees from tripping over outside and one over the handlebars from her bike, chin hitting floor event, but actually these are very very few, mostly it's just small bruises from crawling over or bashing into hard items.

DS likes to count his bruises on his shins and knees!

I also have a lovely spot on the top of my cheek to which he asked me 'What happened, did Daddy punch you?' We were horrified! Hope he doesn't have this chat at nursery!

All very normal!

Oh and DD still has a neat little scar on her chin, from slipping on a wet climbing frame.
