hi. my son is 3 and just had a salt assessment. he doesn't say a lot of his sounds yet and can't be understood by people outside family.
we have been given some worksheets to do with him but he is having trouble concentrating. does anyone know of any dvds or ipad apps we could buy that he might find a bit more fun?

Hi my son is 4 and has phonological/ articulation disorder. Like your son, he is also difficult to understand for anyone not familiar with him. In his first SALT groups they used bigmouth sounds which have apps that go with them. One has games/ stories and the other is a short workout where they focus on the shape of your mouth as you make different sounds. This has been really useful as I hadn't realised how much he was struggling with actually making these shapes, for instance a few weeks ago he was unable to put his tongue behind his top teeth which you need to do for various sounds. I just searched for big mouth sounds in the app store. His new SALT doesn't use big mouth bur it is still useful and fun for him to do. The other one we have just started with is articulation station. It's really expensive if you buy the whole package so we have not done that. It comes with the p sound for free and then another one that his therapist has been working on is f so I bought that one and that has been enough so far. Also I highly recommend the website www.mommyspeechtherapy.com. I have got loads of useful information and pictures from there.
Oh and also to make it fun (as lets face it just saying words can be boring) I have tried to make it a bit more interactive e.g. putting pictures underneath a set of skittles, let him bowl them down and then he has to say the words that are under the skittles he's bowled down. I also printed out a net of a cube shape and stuck pictures on each part and made a dice. He rolls the dice and then says the word it lands on.
Hope that is of some use, good luck xx.
