when did you start putting baby to bed?

I have a 6.5 week old baby and we have so far just taken baby up to bed after the last bottle (when we also go to bed).

Just wondering whether i need to think about putting him to bed earlier and just doing that late feed upstairs? He still sleeps most of the day and feeds once or twice in the night (bottles) so seems a bit pointless to try and do a bedtime routine to me, but i don't want to miss the opportunity to get a good routine going if its usual to do it at this early stage.

Just wondering how others did it?

I did the last feed upstairs so it was all quiet - I bf so just read a book when DD was this little. The transition from feed before bed to story before bed was then pretty natural (there was quite a long period where they over lapped). Bath was never part of our night-time routine.

I can't remember timing (DD now 4) but I think at this age the last feed was fairly late in the evening.

Dd started to fall asleep naturally after her last bottle at around 8 weeks. We did keep things quiet and calm in the evening. For now she seems to realise (most of the time) that dark room plus cot means sleep.

Try to make daytime playtime and bright, evening calm and dim, night quiet and dark. Eventually they do adjust.

Yeah at the moment i do baths in the daytime as a way of keeping baby awake. I don't really want baths as part of the bedtime routine as i don't want to bath baby every day while this tiny.

He has possible reflux (in process of trying meds and seeing paediatrician at the mo) so he isn't very happy when he is awake so he generally just wears himself out crying after feeds and then wakes for next one do nights and days are all the same!

We kept ds with us until he was 6 months ( I interpreted the guidelines about the baby sleeping in the same room as you to mean naps/evening sleep aswell as night time sleep) ds would sleep in the evenings cuddled up with us on the sofa.

Ds is 8 months old now and he sleeps 6-7.

About 10 weeks with my first and it worked quite quickly.
Started earlier with second DD but not quite as quick and successful. Tried it because of fitting in with the older one. We used to put them to bed then dream feed and transfer them into our room when I went to bed. Up til about 6/7 months.
