How to go about introducing swimming to a 20 mo?

We took our Dd swimming for the first time in ages yesterday, she hadn't been for a very long time so it might as well have been her first time! She was very clingy and very reluctant to use arm bands.

I really wish I'd taken her more when she was younger but we have only just got our own car and are quite far away from a pool!

I really want her enjoy it but don't know the right way to go about encouraging her. Any advice appreciated :)

Just go & mess about, join a group where you all sing songs & that stuff, then when happy with that, can begin lessons

Thanks, yeah I think we will have to do that. She is so nervous of new situations!

Don't bother with arm bands if she doesn't like them, just hold her close to build confidence.

You could try an inflatable ring instead of the armbands? I think just take it slow and go with things at her pace, and perhaps take her to some lessons or a group if you can. You can do 1-1 sessions too if that's a option?
