Hi,
I've got a 21 month only daughter and a 6 week old boy. My toddler has been a scratcher / biter for a few months now and nothing we do seems to stop it. She bites / scratches me, my partner and other children. Sometimes it's clearly out of anger / frustration (ie when she doesn't want her nappy changed / when another child takes a toy) but at other times it seems completely unprovoked.
We are very clear about saying 'no' / 'stop it' explaining that it hurts and encouraging kisses / cuddles instead. We also try and take her out of situation and give other child attention instead.
None of this seems to have stemmed the aggression and beginning to worry about our inability to stop it.
She goes to a childminder two days a week who has taken same approach, the childminder has expressed concern that sometime when the other child is upset by being scratched and she (childminder) gives e other child attention my daughter seems completely unbothered by all this. Should I be worried about this lack of response? Does it perhaps suggest a lack of empathy (though at her age can she even have empathy?)
And does anyone have any advice about how we deal with her scratching / biting?
Thanks in advance!!
X
