Hi,
DS was always plotting along the 9th percentile for length. He was monitored by the HV for weight issues and they took his length too and although everything is fine now, I still monitor both.
I am worried about the 2y check up when his length will be measured standing up. He is about 4cm shorter standing against the wall than measured flat .... which brings him just under the 2nd percentile. I know from friends who had their check ups already and some of their DC dropped a line but some did not.
I guess it's normal and because the spine is squashed but is it really that bad or is it because they are still so little and they be able to stand a bit more straight at 3 or 4y and they are back on the original line?
If I look at the chart, it doesn't make any adjustments for it, so is it "normal" or "usual" that most DC have a 4,5cm or even more growth spurt to be able to maintain the line at 2y?
We are average btw, 5,7 and 5,11 but e.g. my DH father and brother are both 5,8 and my grandfather was probably around 5,4 (however being born 1899, he does not look smaller than other men in old pictures). And of course, we have really tall people, too.
Thanks,
Thali
