Do all 2 year olds get 2 year checks?

We haven't heard anything from our HV since the 8 month check. As no 2. is due in October I am sure we will get back on their radar soon (DS will be almost 3). I don't have any concerns about him, its just that I was wondering if whether you got one depended on health authority. There is nothing about a mandatory 2 year check in the red book.

we do -ours is a 2 - 2 and a half year check so they might not have got round to you yet

Clary · 20/06/2006 13:16

No, lots of places don't do them
I found it helpful just as a guideline to where we should be in certain areas (speech, motor skills etc).
Why not contact HV for an update meetign anyway?

I just got sent a questionnaire in the post asking stuff like how many words dd uses, do I think her hearing it Ok etc

I especially liked the multiple choice one 'does your son/daughter go to a toddler group? Yes, No or unsure' well, we send her out on a Tuesday morning I think she goes to M&T ....

Very shockingly madameplatypus they dont do a 2yr check any more!If you are lucky the HV might ring up and ask you some questions re development but they dont need to see your child.I find this very worrying as you could tell them anything on the phone and they would never know any different!!The HV hasnt seen ds2 since he was 8months.He is now nearly 3.I know he is fine but how many children slip through the net and end up being abused etc.Sad

It does depend on were you live but overall they are not going completely but being 'targeted', or so I am told. Think if you live in a Sure Start area more attention is paid.

Elibean · 20/06/2006 16:02

Ours is optional, and can be anytime up to 3yrs old. Haven't been yet, and dd is 2.5...but have just had an 'invite'.

I wonder if they are targetted more than they used to be

MumtoBen · 20/06/2006 20:30

The only check we get is at 8 weeks. There was no 9-12 months check. Not the HV's fault. They are under-resourced.

honeybunny · 20/06/2006 20:41

I got one for ds1 who is now 5.5 but ds2 who is 4 hasnt had any formal check ups since 8mo. dd is 18mo and has had an 8mo check, but thats it to date too. We're in Kent.

kid · 20/06/2006 20:45

The 8 month check and the 2.5 year old check are done by the HV, the 6 week and 18 month are done by the dr.
DS never had any done by the HV as our surgery stopped doing them due to an overworked HV! The last he was seen for his development was at 18 months, he is 4.2 now.

serenity · 20/06/2006 20:45

DS1 and 2 both had them, but DD won't because they've now been cut. HV was not very happy about it when she told me, but figured that by now (ie number 3) I would know whether DD was developing 'normally' or not.
