Teething - molars 15 mths, seems so poorly?

My dd is 15 mths and has been getting all 4 molars at once, last week her temp hit 41 and she was very lacking in spirit and slept a lot interspersed with screaming VERY unlike her, even when ill she is very placid and relatively happy.
Doc put her on antibiotics as he suspected she had an underlying illness.... Which never eventuated!
She settled for 2 days and now back to high fever and huge sleeps (no screaming), eating smaller amounts than usual, but the sleep is amazing in itself.
I am happy to accept that she is just teething I suppose but is it usual for some babies to get so knocked over by it like this?
She is so not herself, but not appearing ill as such, the fever though high at over 40 isn;t bothering her, although I have given her nurofen...
Just a bit curious as to this?

I'm ok with that, my 1st had FC after a temp of over 38 he was very affected by fever, DD is pretty stout... I do calpol and nurofen as per docs order max dose using both paracetamol and ibuprofen too, it just seems so much for a little girl and just for teeth!

Kiwisbird, this all sounds so familiar to me; I remember dd at the same age, teething with those horrible big teeth, not being herself, off her food a bit, lethargic, she had strange nappies too.

In fact, she also got a bit of gum come out from the middle of the tooth when it eventually came through, that frightened me when I first saw it before I worked out what it was!

BTW, I can remember my wisdon teeth coming through as a teenager and it hurt me like hell...

All I can say is that it does stop when the lovely new teeth arrive

Have you tried Ashton & Parsons teething powders? They worked wonders for my dd when she was suffering with teething and are easily obtainable at Boots or Superdrug. I poured the powder into her mouth and hey presto the crying stopped - wonderful!

Golly yes, those and chamomile drops and bonjela and nelsons granules. I would always try a non medical solution first before resorting to drugs.
Thanks though it's good to know that its not unusual, although no good to her per se!

When my dd was a baby and was teething she used to get teething colds. Although she was never as ill as your dd sounds, poor little thing, she was pretty miserable and irritable.

Incidently now that my dd is 6 when her teeth are wiggly and getting ready to fall out she gets a cold again. Her teeth don't just wiggle for a few days then come out they wiggle for weeks at a time and these colds last until the tooth comes out.

Sorry to hear that your dd is so poorly but once those teeth are through she'll be right as rain.

When mine is teething, she gets a bit of a temp (but not a sustained high temp over days - did the doctor check for an ear infection?). She gets a bit of pain - but controllable through calpol, her cheeks go red, her poo is a bit runny and she therefore develops nappy rash. She also goes off her food. She doesn't sleep especially more than usual and she doesn't scream continuously...I know I haven't seen your dd ,and the doctor has - but I hope he checked her ears did he?

When dd had an ear infection a few weeks ago she was screaming lots, sleeping lots in between and had a high temp for several days. The first GP missed the ear infection, but I went back two days later and the subsequent GP spotted it.

just found out that she has measles now
That explains a lot!
