Shes starting school in 2 days and despite us having a 'that's not something we do in public' talk 4.6 yo Dd still doesn't get it.
She's quite discreet, she usually sits on her chair and doesit but I know what she's doing. She will usually stop when asked to but I can't be there at school to stop her.
Nursery teacher mentioned it in passing and said she would grow out of it but she just hasn't.
She's bright for her age and understands what I'm asking her to do and yet she ignores me and still does it.
Is this normal? I really don't know what I should be doing about it?

I wouldn't worry, OP. 4 is still very young, and reception age kids don't have much sense of social decency! She will grow out if it!

Hi, don't worry about it. It's perfectly normal. My Daughter was the same at that age. She once got down on the floor in a public park and started grinding her bits onto the floor. I was mortified! I spoke to the nursery staff and they told me it was normal behaviour. She will grow out of it.

My daughter did this until she was six, really grinding her chair, she would end up all sweaty from exertion,it was awful, worked with school to keep reminding her to stop and at 6 she did (smile)

Thanks ladies that's so reassuring. I feel like I may have over reacted to her a few times when iv really been uncomfortable in public situations with her doing it and really regretting it as she is my first dc and had no idea this was normal. I have posted about it before but assumed it should have stopped by now. Worried I have made too much of a fuss about it.
