as my SD who comes to stay here every fortnight (fri night - sun teatime) and just before bedtime - half an hour at least - we tell her that she need to brush her teeth, brush her hair and toilet before sleep. she had been doing this herself for the past 2 yrs.

guaranteed she always forgets adn me or DP asked her if she had done the 3 things and its a no and i can see it in her face that she geuienely (sp?) forgot.

is this normal?

God yes - as the mother of a newly 8 yo!

They've got their heads full of loads of other exciting 7/8 yo stuff - which is exactly as it should be in my book:)

Let's not hurry them through child hood too quickly - I think it's our role to remind them of the basics and their role to enjoy being a child:):):)

If my ds1 is anything to go by, then yes, it is perfectly normal. He can forget anything - in fact sometimes he's actually busy forgetting things as I am telling him them!

Defnitely:)
I send ds2 upstairs to wash his face and he forgets on his way upstairs! Feel like I am forever reminding him to do things, I am sure ds1 was never this bad but maybe I forget Grin
