Weaning my 13 month old off dummy

I'm trying to get my daughter off using her dummy in the day and just have it for naps and bedtime but she gets hysterical when she realises I've taken it away so i resort to giving it back to her. How can I be stronger as I realise its not good for her to have it but hate seeing her so upset.

dd2 has always been a dummy fiend. when she turned one I stopped her having dummies during the day and only use them for naps and bed time. I lot get dummy on a string (one of those mam dummy cords with a clamp on the end) and attached it to her silky. she has a square of satin that she has always slept with and rubs on her face when she is winding down for sleep. it never leaves her cot so neither does the dummy.

she is 16 months now and seems to accept that dummy stays in bed. if she is napping while we are out she often does need to have a little whinge before she drops of to sleep but I can accept that.
