Not crawling (let alone walking) at 12 months

Will stand for hours holding onto something (table etc)but hates being in the crawling position. When do I start worrying?

I think the fact that he can weight bear is a good sign that his legs work! I really wouldn't worry. Ds is 14 months and still doesn't crawl although gets around at a rate of knots on his bottom.

my dd didn't crawl until 13months but loved to stand. then sisn't walk until 18months. i too worried but don't. my dd was quite content not to move but enjoyed being up. encourage her to be on hands and knees. i spent alot of time craling myself and she eventually copied me!

I wouldn't worry - according to my mum, I hardly crawled at all. One day, when I was 16 months, I got up and started walking and never looked back!

My DD is completely different - started crawling at 9 months, and cruising the furniture very shortly afterwards - only now at 14.5 months is she showing signs of starting to walk.

My dad is a paedicatrician and he says crawling is not a developmental milestone the way sitting, standing and walking are. Some children never crawl. Yours may very well just go straight to walking.

My friends child never crawled - just shuffled around in her bum until she was 2.hth

It's already been said, standing is a really good sign. But for some children it is a huge leap to actually let go of things and move unaided. Add into that that they don't crawl and they suddenly look very static! If you ignore the not crawling and just look at the not walking issue, it is too early to be concerned. My dds didn't walk until they were 14m and 15m respectively (far too interested in talking at that age )

My DS didn't crawl until almost a year and then within 4 weeks he was walking. I would not be worried at all but I know however much you shouldn't you do compare to your friends children.

My DS only PROPERLY started crawling at about 10mths and is still not walking at 16mths. Not overly worried though - he just seems to be the type to do things when he's good and ready and that's fine by me! My cuz didn't start walking til 22 months so long as your sweetie is happy and healthy and is happy to be weight bearing etc - I wouldn't worry at all tbh (easier said than done though eh?).

my dd only started crawling over a week ago she turned 1 on 9th june. She won't stand for long at all holding onto furniture. So is really good sign that yours does. Doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about!

Thanks all for your supportive comments. We have asked the HV and she is not worried in the slightest. I will wait another couple of months and then if we still have made no progress maybe go and see a pediatrician.

To reassure you, you are not the only one. I have two friends whose children didn't crawl / walk until they have been 18 months old.
One of them had two children - boh displaying the same behaviour. They are now 3yo and 6yo and are both walking perfectly well as any other child !

My dd never crawled and only started pulling herself up at 14m.

My 14 mth old ds is not crawling, and I'm pretty sure he never will. No sign of walking yet although he loves standing up when supported (he can't do it on his own yet).

I'm not worried because my niece was exactly like this, and didn't walk till she was past 2. She is walking and running around now perfectly normally. She has 2 older brothers who both crawled at 9 months and walked before their first birthdays.

Apparently if they're not "weight-bearing" it's a possible sign that something might be wrong with their legs or hips, but other than that it's just different children doing things at different paces.

If he is developing normally in all other areas, then I would not be too worried. But if you find that he is behind in other things too, then I would speak to your GP.
I was also worried about my son, everybody told me not to worry, bla bla bla,he will do it in his own time... but in the end he DID have a problem. Why not speak to your GP?
