Scared after pooing in the bath!

So, we managed to get to 2 years before DS pooped in the bath. The night before last he stood up in the bath & said "poo poo" & then went ahead & did it. When he saw the poo he got really upset & basically clambered out & onto his dad. We kept telling him it was ok. Dad got him dressed, I cleaned up the poop & we showed him it had gone afterwards & told him it was just fine. He was really quite upset. I suppose it must be the first time he's really noticed a poop.

The next morning when he got up he pointed at the bathroom & was obviously talking about the whole thing. That night he was fine & had a bath like normal. Today he's said "poo poo gone now" when we've been in or near the bathroom.

Tonight he wouldn't have a bath. He was fine & I got his nappy off etc & he just wouldn't go in. I put him in & gave him cuddles then tried to be firm & he was upset. Then I got in to show him it was fine, but it didn't help. He was very tired, but I'm just worried the whole thing has just scared him.

What do you think? Any ideas on how to tackle this? Do we just carry on as normal & their fears subside?

Exactly the same thing happened with my dd (nearly2) when she pooed in the paddling pool - it made her scared of the bath. The minute I got her undressed she would start screaming for her nappy and refuse to go in.

I let her stand in the bath with her nappy in for a week whilst i washed other areas, then took her nappy off snd splashed her bits before getting her out. Then I got some new bath toys to distract her and convince her to go in properly - this worked.

We've just done bath time. We managed to get him in with a combination of bubble bath & letting him keep his tshirt on (he's a bit obsessed with that one today!) He wouldn't sit down & mentioned "poo poo" in his babble, but we kept him in long enough to wash him all over before he climbed out onto me.
Here's hoping tomorrow's an improvement.
