He don't want to be no trouble ... ds doesn't tell us he's been sick

ds (1) has been a bit poorly recently ... and we keep finding him in the morning lying in a pool of dried up sick. Should we worry, or is this normal behaviour (and if so, what can we do about it?)

I don't know if this is normal or not - I just know that it would worry me if my ds did this. I'd be worried about choking and all that (sorry if I'm scaremongering...)

When my DD had a bug in the past a couple of times I went in to her room and she had been sick in the night and not called me at the time, when I asked why she hadn't called me, she said she didn't need me and was alright!! always has been very independant. I think sometimes they may be half asleep though and just go back to sleep after. I remember when I was little waking up in a pool of sick and having no recollection of doing it, and my mum saying to me why didn't I call her - so I wouldn't worry too much personally.

I wouldn't say it was normal if happening frequently. ds2 has been sick about 3 times in the night and not been distressed. But his were one off events and not related to each other.

I would say if they are happening frequently and close together it may be worth having a word with the doctor as it could be a stomach bug. Or is it linked to specific food. I am afraid I would also have to echo Blackduck's concerns regarding the choking as well. In any case it would be worth a quick trip to the doctor's or your health visitor if you feel these would be better. Also remember your ds1 is still young and may not understand what is happening and may not feel the need to call out.

My DS who is nearly 3 has done this intermittently - ie 3/4 times over the last couple of years. He doesn't seem to be bothered by it. Its a bit of a shock though when you walk in and the smell hits you and you realise what has happened. Sometimes he has been laid in it so long that he has a rash on his face/chest/arms (sleeps on his front). But each time has been an isolated incident.

I like Bozza's view best - which suggests that deep down I'm not that bothered either. We've seen the doctor about the sickness and he said it was actually because of his chest infection (which he's had for 2 weeks). I don't think dp mentioned that he lay in it.

Stupidly a bigger concern than choking is actually his personality - just seems a bizarre thing to do. I think I'll go with the line that he simply slept through it.

Yeah fisil I thought it was bizarre too but then DS is.... He only ever cries out for us if he has a bad dream. If he has a cough or something he just gets on with it although sometimes if I hear him I will go to him. And when he wakes in the morning he doesn't even get up. Just lays there and shouts for us.

Ds1 did this too. Amazing what kids will sleep in, it was everywhere!

Mine have vomited in their sleep as well. Trying to wash dried and encrusted sick out their hair has to be one of the worst jobs going.

fisil, I remember this happening to me as a child a few times and my mom always was freaked out by it. I think I was half asleep and also feeling lousy so didn't want to get out of bed. I really don't think I was afraid to ask for help or anything like that. But if your ds is only 1 then he's really likely to just do it more or less in his sleep. Surprised you can't hear him though. DD is v.loud when she throws up!

It's good to know he isn't the only one! And yes, I'm surprised too that we don't hear anything about it - he can make a right fuss over a little cough during the day sometimes!
