My 26 month old son adores his dummy. in theory i try to only use it for bedtime, car, pushchair and quiet cuddles on the sofa. he would have it all the time if ge could and if he is being hard work or clingy or whingy i do tend to give it to him. Rather than how can i wean him off it, how can i stop myself giving in and letting him have it? Both my children still cuddle a muslin in bed and i have told my five year old daughter that hers need to stay in her bed cos if my son spies a muslin he automatically wants a dummy too.

I would perhaps tackle one thing at a time, either the pushchair, car, sofa or bed...whichever he'd cope with the easiest.

We gave up the pushchair dummy at 12mo and the car dummy at 26mo. The car dummy was an accidental cold-turkey as we accidentally packed them all in the roof box when we were going in holiday. For about 3 days she asked for a dummy in the car and we gave her a snack instead.

She still has a bed dummy at 32mo and not planning on giving that up until we've cracked potty training!
