Anyone else in the 5am club?

My dd is two, doesn't nap in the day anymore (hasn't for months), goes to bed at 6 with a full stomach and a consistent bedtime routine. Her room is pitch black and very quiet. We have tried varying the time she goes to bed but she is consistently waking up at 5am and it is killing me, makes the morning ridiculously long and tiring and means I'm having to be I. Bed early every night to catch up on some sleep. Is this just a phase? If we leave her she gets quite stressed out and cries.

Yes! Confused

21 months, does nap in day (c 1 hour) but gets up 4.30/5am every day . Bed at 7.

Nothing works. But if its any consolation, her elder sister did the same and it did eventually get better

And this too shall pass ...

Have you heard of the wake to sleep method?

Just read through it, thank you. Will give it a go!

We're in that club- been over a year now with DC1, and DC2 seems to be following in her footsteps. Nothing seems to work, but I'm assured they'll discover lie ins when they need to be up early for school Hmm.

Used to be but now in the 6.15am club. It does improve with time but some children just wake up early regardless of what you do. Ds is one of them. Sorry to say he's nearly 6 and still doing it but at least he's more independent now.

dc1 got up at 5am every day until he was 6.

dc2 got up at 5am every day until he was 5, and would sleep longer now if it wasn't for...

dc3 who gets up at 4.30 every day (she's 3) and wakes everyone else up

Thank you all. I do feel better knowing it's not just me. I'm just hoping come winter she sleeps a bit later, getting up at 5am in the middle of November may just finish me off!

Obviously the previous posts show there are some kids who just do wake early, but I just wanted to say for us it got better. DD(2.4) has always slept 10-10.5 hours, so you have to take the hit somewhere. All these clever methods failed us, the only thing that helped was realising she was never going to sleep more than 10.5 hours... We just put her to bed later - it was hard to achieve even a half hour delay but last summer we moved from 7pm to 7.30 and after a couple of weeks she started sleeping til 6 most days. She now goes to bed about 7.45 but is usually awake til after 8. We have a groclock and she is not allowed to get out of bed til 6.25 (yeah I know, random!) and she's pretty good about it. It is now v rare for her to wake before 6am, but equally she sleeps later than 6.30 only about once a fortnight, and still never sleeps later than 7. Good luck all!
