Why can't they just chill and enjoy their holiday!

My DD is 8 and my DS is 6 and we are on holiday in our native country, Denmark, staying with relatives. We have been here since July 24, and it's been trying! I am on a working holiday (working on my lap top, I'm a freelance translator) and my mum is looking after the kids during the week.

My kids are very good friends and they do play great together most of the time. But I am so worn out as they require constant activating! I am so sick and tired of arranging and thinking up activities for them, seems they can't just play. What is going on? Is their school day so structured that they are unable to wind down during holidays and/or do the not posses initiative for the same reason? If we leave them to play, they end up fighting or getting really destructive.

Any advice? Anyone tried the same?

They're probably unsettled due to being away. I took my 2 on a 2 week holiday and I had the same. Comforting things that remind them of home might help, even if they're hardened traveller types!

Snoopy, thanks, maybe you are right. They do miss their daddy terribly. He's coming out here next week.
