Potty training no pants!

My ds is 2.5 and is brilliant in the house now with using his potty the last week. Will do wees and poos unprompted with very few accidents. Not yet tried out of the house yet. However as soon as he has proper pants on he wets himself. Is it just a case of carrying on with no bottoms for a week longer and then trying pants again? He can get them off himself but he just seems to not think about his potty when they are on.

Any tips?

Is there a chance he thinks they are like a nappy? Would it be worth trying boxer shorts as he may identify with the different shape? Did he choose his pants from the shop and had you explained their purpose.

Ds did exactly the same, I kept his pants off for another week and introduced a sticker chart, worked a treat! Good luck

I thnk he'll need reminding for a while and probably a few changes a day, should only be a few days before he gets it though.

It's sort of like taking two steps forward and one step back.

Good luck!

Thank you! He deffo knows are big boy pants and not nappies and they have monsters on so he likes them but just seems to then forget about his potty. Will carry on a bit longer before the monster pants come back. He did interupt his dinner yesterday for a wee so hopefully he's getting there!

Started potty training dd a few weeks ago and she was the same for the first week or so. Kept pants off for another day or 2 then had to go out the house so had to put trousers on. I just told her to tell me if she needed to go and I'd get her trousers down for her. She's been fab ever since and the only accident she has had was when she took herself off to the potty and sat on it with her trousers up but I reckoned she had the idea as she was really annoyed about it afterwards. Was in the house anyway so no problem. Hopefully it will just click for your ds as he sounds like he's doing well. When you do put pants and trousers on him just keep reminding him to tell you if he needs and ask him every so often. Maybe even give him a choccie button if he tells you he needs to go. Good luck

Do you take a potty out with u when? He's too frightened of the giant adult toilets when I hold him on one and won't wee so when we went shopping recently I just put a nappy on him. Should I take a potty or wait till he's got the idea of pants/trousers indoors first?

All so tricky!

We're having the same problem with DD. She knows that she shouldn't wee in them, and says so when they go on and then she forgets and gets upset when she does wee in them. I have a feeling that she links the feeling of the cover to that of a nappy. Haven't got a clue how to get her to figure it out though, short of just trying and trying. She's fantastic when in the buff, but can't really take her out like that!
