8 month sleep regression??

Advice needed please.
My DS2 is 8 months now and has never been a particularly good sleeper - hated his Moses basket from day 1 so we co slept until about 6 months. He's in his cot in our room still as we only have 1 spare room & his brother sleeps really well so not keen to disturb him. He's been night weaned since about 24 weeks, eats 3 meals a day, far happier with food than milk & only taking about 18oz max along with about 6-9oz of water.
He sometimes settles easily at bedtime, sometimes not - he's learnt to roll onto his front now and sometimes he sleeps happily this way, sometimes seems really squirmy on his front. He had been sleeping until about 12.30 from 7 having a little fidget and moan then going back until about 6. In the last week he is sleeping from about 7 until 1.30 and is WIDE awake. Not crying but moaning and shouting, up and down his cot etc sometimes for 3 hours. Reluctantly we tried him back in bed with us but this made no difference at all. Tried putting him in the travel cot in the living room to CIO - he just yelled for 3 hours and the whole CIO really doesn't sit well with me anyway.
What can I do. His bedtime routine hasn't changed, his naps are generally 2x 20/30 mins plus a longer one after lunch of around 1-11/2 hours.
This seems like typical regression but what do I do, we have a 2.4 yo too so would like to be back to being a nice Mummy again ASAP!

okay could be a risk but, how about putting him in with the 2.4 yr old. he might be being disturbed by you and potentially be more content with his sibling. Its risky I know but worth a try.

he isnt having sleep regression he is having, oh I am awake and there's mum and dad yay!

Hmmm, I'm just so reluctant to risk disturbing DS1 - he's on week 3 of potty training and has just gone into his big boy bed, I think he's got enough going on!
I don't think we are disturbing DS2 as he doesn't stir when we go to bed at about 11, I would very much like to have him in his own room though to cancel out that YAY factor. Thanks though Sherbetpips!
