recommend me some toys for an 8 month old?

DD has recently become much more interested in playing with toys which is great as it gives me a breather

She has got plastic links, stacking cups/rings etc but she doesn't have much in the way of more complex or interactive toys (like anything that needs batteries for example!). though she does have a jumperoo and loves it. It seems like she might be ready for some slightly more grown up toys soon but there are SO many out there I don't really know where to start.

Any recommendations please?

Shape sorter, anything involving 'posting' things, things where you get a response for pressing buttons (eg something lights up or pops up).Don't think you need to get too technical yet, or else theres nothing to move on to.

The leapfrog alphabet ball. My ds was obsessed with it around that age and still loves it a year later!

My daughters 7 months and loves anything that 'crinkles'! (Like a crisp packet but more expensive)

Tomy hide and squeak eggs!

Musical instruments, maracas were a favourite with my dd. she still plays with them now. I think anything with sound will always be a hit

Cause and effect toys (pop up farm for example), wooden blocks, plastic ball. You can make your own shakers by putting rice or lentils in plastic bottles and sellotaping the lid shut. Scarves or other large pieces of material are really good for peek-a-boo or simple hiding games. Definitely nothing remotely technical or computer-like!

And don't forget books - 'Dear Zoo' and any of the 'That's Not My....' are great.

thanks, this is great! yes agree nothing too technical, I just think she's ready for things that are made of two bits of plastic rather than just one, iyswim! she has maracas and loves them, we also have dear zoo and various that's not my... books. crinkles are also very popular here, especially any baby wipes packet for some reason...!

which is awesome! It does french as well as English and has the most addictive songs (as in, I can't stop muttering them, not that I actually 'like' them per se!)

today dd has insisted on being held to stand and walk all day so may need to add a walker to the list to save our backs...

Nothing!!! Seriously. She will be given an obscene amount of stuff for her 1st birthday and Christmas, and you will feel physically ill looking at all the plastic stuff filling up your living room, so keep your list as a wish list til then. We ended up with so much plastic tat, and some items from the kitchen (collander, wooden spoon, cups, empty plastic containers) would have kept us going til bday time. Maybe a couple of handback books if you are really desperate to buy her something.

DD2 is 8months and currently loves a vtech phone, a rattly ladybird that crinkles and a maraca. Anything else doesn't get a look in. She's too busy crawling and trying to climb.

I do sometimes think she doesn't have enough, great ideas here.
