I'm running out of ideas and hoping someone on MN has some words of wisdom.

DD has always been quite highly strung but is a sociable child, likes other kids, and teachers have always said she makes and keeps friends and is very caring. However, she's always had friendship issues, complaining she's been excluded from friendship groups or ditched by best friends for other friends. We recently reached the conclusion that while there was probably fault on both sides, a big part of the problem is her tendency to strop off (sometimes with tears) if things aren't going the way she'd hoped. Today for example she was with a group of friends at a play park and ended up in a huff on her own because she didn't want to play the game the others did. Afterwards, I listened to her woes but then tried to explain that she hadn't been excluded, she'd effectively excluded herself by choosing not to join in, and her response was to go in a huff with me, refusing to speak to me and more tears.

I worry that until she tackles the huffiness and lack of willingness to compromise she will struggle socially. How can I help her?
