2 year old eating hair and fluff

My DS picks up hair off the carpet (I have long thick hair and it just seems to end up everywhere!) and eats it! He picks up fluff from the floor, carpet, cushions but weirdest of all is that he has a fleece blanket that he loves and usually has at nap time or before bed. Every time without fail he will take out his dummy, bite a bit of fluff off the blanket and puts his dummy back in. If you try to take it off him or stop him he grabs at it and does it quickly!

Is there something wrong with him or is this normal?

Sounds like Pica. My DD had it...it's where children (and adults) have a compulsion to eat non-foods. I also had it as a child. My DD ate plaster from the wall and also earth and sand. I ate earth.

It can signify an iron shortage....I would pop to the GP and ask about it if I were you. In the meantime (I have long thick hair too and know all about the droppage!) tie your hair up and brush it outside ..that's the only way I know to reduce the hair on the floor thing.

I wear mine in a bun in the house...it would be good to reduce the hair intake as it can get twined around their insisides or create a big hair ball....

My LO LOVES eating sand and stones. Sand from the sandpit and stones (obviously removed from mouth and quickly replaced by dd) from the drive. I think it's normal!
She sometimes has very sandy, gritty poos so I know it's going all the way through her system
Wouldn't worry too much- he may cough up a hairball one of these days!

It's not really normal though and you should keep an eye on it as I say it can be a sign on a shortage of something so pop to the GP and check

Thank you, I thought it could be some sort of OCD or something! He has his 2 year check up in a week so I will mention it then.

Uh Oh! I may have to get to GP too! just thought it was what little ones did

I better go to the gp soon then before my sons blanket shrinks to the size of a flannel, he's non stop biting and pulling bits off! I thought it was a comfort thing. Thanks for posting though, he's obviously not as odd as I thought
