When did your DC start sucking their thumb?

DD2 is 12 weeks. Until this last week or so she fed twice or sometimes once a night and would fall asleep on the boob and I'd put her down in her cot to sleep. Now she wakes three times and each time I put her down she stirs, thrashes, gets her hands all in her face and wakes up and needs feeding back to sleep. This happens three or four times each feed and it's doing my head in and I'm knackered and I don't know how I'm going to get through summer hols with DD1 around too. She seems to be sucking her thumb sometimes but she can't quite manage it. I tried a dummy again just now and she's not having it. When did your DC start sucking their thumb / finger? I thought DD1 started about this age and am just hanging on for that and hoping things will improve then.
