Toddler scared to use public toilets

My dd is 3.2 and has been toilet trained for a couple of months. She has done really well and hardly had any accidents but always uses the trainer seat on the toilet at home. The problem we have is whenever we go out somewhere she cannot use a normal toilet as she will fall in! I try to hold onto her but she just gets scared and wants to get up. I suppose I could take the trainer seat out with us but its not very practical. How do other toddlers manage to sit without falling in? I know I probably sound clueless, could anyone advise?
Thanks

You can get a "travel" toilet seat which folds up. Perhaps that would help?

Thank you for replying so quickly. I did see one online but the reviews weren't great. Some said that it wasn't sturdy and collapses into the toilet! I might have to have another look.

we got one from mother care, it folded up and was easy to carry

made using seats easier and saved my back from balancing DT

also you know its clean Hmm

My DS went through the same thing. We have a potette which I took out with us for a while and really helped. You could also try just holding her at home - if she does it in a safe environment with you holding her she might get more confident out. The potette comes with liners so she doesn't actually have to sit on the toilet - you could just put it on the floor in the toilet.

It seemed to go on for ages with DS but actually looking back it was only a few months. He is now 3.10 and will happily sit on a public toilet and just hold on to the seat.

Superbagpuss, do you remember what the mothercare one was called? I just had a quick look on their website but couldn't find anything. Thank you

Thank you, I'll definitely have a look at that.

Had the same issue. We used a fold up toilet seat for a while and then DS1 got past that stage as we stopped using a seat on the toilet at home and he realised he would not fall in.......but don't get me started on how to get over the fear of the sound of hand dryers!
