Solids

My 7 month old has No interest in solids. We weaned him at 5 months and he was fine then had lryingitis and we found out he has a milk allergy all at the same time. He's now on prescription milk and far happier but won't take solids, and if i do get any porridge or baby rice in him he's not interested in his milk so I'm not really achieving anything. He's a good size baby, 8lb born and now a good 20lb. Should I be concerned?

He will be fine! My lb wasn't a big eater but now is a Hoover & a dustbin lol just keep trying at the same times each day! Do u give a bottle first thing or breakfast?
When I started my lb with porridge first thing rather than a bottle he wolfed it down!
If you are really concerned see a hv or GP ;-)

DS1 was uninterested in food really til about 9 months when a switch flicked on day and he started shovelling it down.

If he's not interested in porridge or spooned food try just sitting him on your lap and letting him play with food on your plate, as my DS2 6.5months is doing right now with a piece of toast. Its all about learning tastes and textures at this age, and less about actually swallowing the food very much. The milk is still his main source of nutrition for some time to come.

Please don't worry. At 7 months he should still be getting most of his calories from his milk and you should be offering food just once a day. That's all it is too, just offering it to him, it matters not one jot if he doesn't eat it.

The baby rice won't contain much nutrition or taste though, I'm not really surprised he won't eat it, what else have you tried? Could you make up some Ready Brek with his milk and add in chopped banana or berries?

There is so much lovely fruit around at the moment, have you tried him with big chip size pieces of watermelon or a nectarine, strawberries or raspberries? How is he with finger food?

How much milk is he having? 20floz is the minimum each day from 6 to 12 months. If he's having a lot more than that there may be no room for him to take solids Smile

If you think the laryngitis could be the cause though, it might be worth taking him to the GP and getting them to check his throat, ears and tummy. Has he ever been checked for tongue tie too? This can often cause problem with weaning.

Don't forget the Mn weaning information and the weaning forum, they are both very good Smile
