10 month old very difficult through the night

My ds2 turned 10 months this week, hes a very active little boy and has recently started walking. Still tumbles after six or seven steps but gaining confidence every day and already prefers walking to crawling.
Since a week or two ago he refuses to settle at night, and its getting to the point he is up at least 5 or 6 times up to 20 minutes at a time. We had established a bedtime which suited both dc at 7.30pm, with maybe one or two awakenings and then he was up for the day at 7am. He doesn't cry on waking up, but sits up, tries to crawl off the bed (we co-sleep) or wants to play and just doesn't seem tired at all! He has two short naps in the day, and I feel he is not getting enough sleep at all. Some nights he is up as soon as I creep out of the room once they are both asleep.
Is this regression due to his walking, or could it be a growth spurt? How long is it likely to last? Could it be down to the heat and humidity? I am so tired with the sleep deprivation as dc1 is up very early and I have to be up with him. Any advice greatly appreciated

My DS started walking at the same age and stopped sleeping well at the same time! It didn't last long, we put it down to him wanting to try out his new skill (he had done the same when he learnt to crawl).
