Almost 3yo lisping

My almost 3yo seems to be developing a bit of a lisp. Is this a normal developmental phase? When should we start getting worried and think about seeing a speech therapist?

Hi. My son was 4 in march and has a lisp where he will say quite a lot of sounds with his tongue between his teeth. I decided to refer him to speech therapy and we were seen last month. She listened to him saying a lot of words and decided that she wanted to wait and see if it changed naturally in the next 3 to 6 months. If not she will start some speech therapy exercises with him.

It would appear that they think it's a development phase that they may grow out of but if not by around 4 and a half then speech therapy will hopefully help.

DS1 had a tiny lisp at that age. I later found out he was tongue tied and the lisp disappeared after we had it revised age 7.

Mine is 5 1/2 and lisps. SLT say no need to worry until baby teeth are lost as they will beging to lisp again when they lose their front teeth. They can work with you if lisping after then.
