Is my nearly 4-year-old a bit of a goth?

Not that I mind anything gothic. It's just that she seems very different to other little girls her age. Her favourite colour is black (although she's also partial to yellow), she hates all things pink, princessy or fairylike. But she's not a tomboy, she's quite slight, careful and delicate in her build and movements. Her favourite DVD ever (so far) was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp. Her cutesy /girlish loves are animals and she's madly into jewellery and interesting accessories of any kind. On the darker side, virtually every imaginary game she plays rapidly turns into a scenario in which some poor toy meets a horrible end, is abandoned by its friends or develops an evil double which causes havok. And she's obsessed with the idea of death which freaks her out and leaves her shaky and crying.

Am I doing something seriously wrong? Or is this familiar to anyone else?

yep dd1 is like this (just 3)
her favourite thing is dragons and her fave film is dragon heart Blush. she also LOVES Scooby Doo (What' scary on scooby doo?? she used to say, making "scary" hands) and even had a little bat on a stick fromthe supermarket at Halloween which she used to wave around....
she says her favourite colour is black Shock and likes to get me to paint her face black (a bugger to get off I can tell you)
she also likes pink and fairies and princesses but engages in some very comlicated stories with ogres and towers and rescues and all that.
she also has two BArbies....

My dd is only 8 months and this thread has been the funniest I've read so far - I've got so much to look forward to. I know you're concerned but she sounds fab, she's just developing her personality I suppose.

Thanks bobsi, yes, you've got lots to look forward to!

HC, wow, pity we can't get them together ... Interesting that your dd also likes a bit of pink and Barbie. Mine totally rejects it. To the point where if she's got a pink crayon in a pack she puts it in the bin. Not just pink but any pastel colours. She hates them. Won't even use the pale blue bricks in her lego! Shock

I know you wrote this many years ago & laughed my head off..I am 55 now & in most of the photos of me as a little girl I am th one dressed in black ..even on the very rare safe at school we could wear our own clothes & the girls would be in their pink finery & I was like a beatnik poet ..My late father was an identical twin & a Gemini like me & he also was ' the man in black'.. I have always loved the darker side of music..I.was an original Goth ( too cool back then to ever label myself though) and to this day still read heavy dystopian literature ..love graveyards & anything to do with the paranormal😂😂😂😂😂😂.
.May I Ask..did your beautiful little goth baby turn I to a high teenager..she must be about 21 or 22 by now judging by the date of this thread ? Lol xx
