Can't get my DS to drink from a cup!

He's nine months old and loves his bottle. What do I do? Just keep offering him a beaker as often as possible? Or should I just chuck out the bottles and go cold turkey?

My DS had completely given up bottles by nine months. Can't remember having this problem at all.

Thanks,
Jess

Maybe stick with the bottle for milk feeds only and the cup at mealtimes with water only. He will hopefully get the difference.

What bottle are you using? If an Avent or other make with matching beakers, you could try our trick. We had Avent bottles and the teas and beaker xpouts are the same size and are interchangable. So we simple replaced DD's bottle teat with the soft beaker spout, and added handles to her bottle. I removed the non spill valve as she hated them. She then had her milk out of the comforting bottle, but with spout instead. This made the move to a beaker a little smoother and less stressful for DD.

my dd refused a cup point blank because she saw dd1 using straws

they like \link{http://www.tommeetippee.co.uk/shop/product.php?productid=143&cat=32&page=1\this} and this only. we bought a smaller tommee tippee cup to put the lid into (they all interchange) because the beaker is massive

I wouldnt worry he is still very young and sure he will pick it up soon. I agree with bramblina and would stick to milk in a bottle and break him in gradually and offer water in a beaker to get him used to it. Think he is too young to go cold turkey. No rush he will pick it up when he is ready.

No rush. My DS1 decided he would have no more milk and no more bottles one day around his first birthday and drunk from his beaker ever since. My DS2 refuses to drink milk from a beaker and he still won't drink it cold. I'm not rushing him, he only has 2/3 bottles a day but will happily drink juice from a beaker. He 14 months.

Don't rush it, 9 months is far too young to be worrying about beakers just yet.

What about a \link{https://secure.bickiepegs.co.uk/acatalog/index.html\doidy cup} as this is completely different he might take to it.

Apparently lots of liddded beakers (especially the 'no spill' ones) are really hard to get liquid out of. That might be what your DS is finding hard. I've a 9 month old who drinks water from it with some spillages, I'll admit, but he is at least drinking from a beaker.
