Help! 11 year old son can't sleep...

DS 11 has always been a poor sleeper, from babyhood. At times he gets so uptight about not sleeping he starts throwing up, due to anxiety. We've tried to get him to relax, slightly later bedtime, telling him it doesn't matter, read a book etc, but the slightest alteration to his routine throws him. He is obsessive about having the same CD on, at exactly the right volume, the lights turned down to just the right level, door open exactly a crack - is this normal?! Going away has been really hard for him, he can't cope with sleepovers and I'm getting concerned about the forthcoming school journey. Apart from this he is pretty well balanced, has no major stresses in his life and a very secure family life. He isn't obsessive about anything else! Anyone else experienced this and got any helpful suggestions?

I have a 12 year old DS who is just the same. I think it is worse this time of year because it is light much later. I am going to try an app as I used one my self and went out like a light.
