5 week old baby - cries when not not sleeping/feeding

I know this may be a stupid questions as i know all babies cry. My little girl seems to cry nearly all the time she is awake, unless she is feeding or sucking a dummy. Sometimes she'll last a short while just looking around but it doesn't last long!Is this normal?

is she worse in the evenings? Maybe wind or colic which will pass with time. Is she feeding well?

Some babies do cry alot for no apparent reason. Others just dont. ie some babies are just more 'demanding'. Have you tried a sling? Maybe she would be happier being near to you.

What kind of birth did she have? Sometimes, cranio-osteopathy can help settle babies.

I dont know! Just some thoughts.

both mine cried unless asleep, feeding or being carried in a sling. I thought it was normal at 5 weeks, tbh! It passes, and quickly (for most babies).

Second the idea of a sling. She might not like it immediately, esepcially if she's used to the pushchair, but after you start walking in it she might well settle.

they gradually develop an 'awake and not crying' mode, which is nice.

crying is supposed to 'peak' at 6 weeks (they have a major growth spurt around then too) and then they gradually become a bit more willing to look at surroundings and life starts to get a bit more 'normal' (whatever that is ..... lol)

My dd also cried almost constantly unless feeding / sleeping for the first 3 months or her life. Health visitor/mid-wives claimed it was normal, but it used to really upset me as other NCT group babies were all very quiet and placid. Finally someone mentionned reflux to me and described the symptoms, and it really struck a chord. Went to see my GP and asked for Infant Gaviscon. Instant change in dd from the moment she was given this in her milk - quiet, placid, happy etc. Only downside was that it needed to be mixed into her milk, hence she had to be bottle-fed from then onwards.

hang in there and keep posting gingerbic. It gets sooooo much better.

dd is very lovely now, everyone comments on how lovely she was but those first few months....its seriously putting me off having any more.
