2.4 Yr Old DD still has 2 hour morning nap - Anyone else??

My DD (2.4) still has a 2 hour nap between 10am and 12pm (was 9am til 11am til she was about 18 months) I am not worried, but I thought she would have grown out of this by now (all my other friends' children have!) I was just wondering if anyone else had a child over 2 who still had a morning sleep???

Dd at 2 and a half often has a nap stil in the day and is cranky in the evening if she doesnt.

nailpolish · 31/05/2006 10:51

my 3.7 yr old usually zonks out on the couch after lunch (about 1230pm) for 2 hrs, does that count?

nailpolish · 31/05/2006 10:51

if she doesnt shes falling asleep at the teatime table, and is soooo grumpy

compo · 31/05/2006 10:51

Does she sleep in the afternoon too? My 2.2 ds usually sleeps after lunch but today he was being really grumpy so I put him down at 10.30am and he seems to have gone to sleep!! Bt he won't have an afternoon nap today as well

expatinscotland · 31/05/2006 10:53

Mine did at this age. She didn't drop that nap till she was about 2.7. Enjoy it whilst it lasts!

I'm hoping she goes for a small kip on the couch once she starts nursery in the Autumn, but not holding my breath.

CaptainDippy · 31/05/2006 10:53

No she doesn't have an afternoon nap too - although sometimes if I take her swimming she'll conk out on the way home (about 4ish) Sorry nailpolish - 12.30pm doesn't count - I want to find some real morning sleepers (i.e. before 12pm!!) Grin

dd1 is now 3.6 and still needs a nap. Some days however she refuses (unless we go out in the car) and is a major pita come teatime. 30 mins usually does the trick.

She used to have up to 3 hours until she went to playgroup at 2.6yrs and the timings coincided.

I miss naps!

SaintofGeorgia · 31/05/2006 10:59

DS2 didn't drop his daytime nap until he was about 3. The he started having a late afternoon nap when he started nursery at 3.5, he was so zonked when he got home.

Now at nearly 5 he occasionally flakes out by about 11am on weekends and holidays. I am amazed that he makes it through a school day but he doesn't seem any worse for wear on the days he doesn't nap.

CaptainDippy · 31/05/2006 11:00

Any morning nappers though???

My 27mo DTS will sleep after lunch for 2 to 2.5 hours and long may it continue!Smile

When they are at nursery, their nap last between 1 to 2 hours. They go to bed at 7pm and sleep right through. When I'm working, I get them up at 6.30am but when I'm at home, I will leave them in their cots until 8am. They need plenty of sleep so I make sure they get it.

speedymama · 31/05/2006 11:03

Oh sorry, did not realise you were more interested in morning nappersBlush. They gave that up when they were about 13 or 14mo.

CaptainDippy · 31/05/2006 11:25

That's ok - I just felt the thread was losing the plot a little bit!! A bit like us mothers, eh!!? Smile

All three of mine did this and like you my friends' children stopped long before. DD1 was still doing it at 3 1/2, but partly because I'd had DD2 and DS3 it suited me with the younger two I started waking them and reducing the sleep at they got near to 3. DS 3 1/2 still sometimes asks for a nap now. Enjoy, don't worry.

bubblepop · 02/06/2006 15:45

oh i so wish my toddler would sleep in the day, shes 23 months. enjoy it while it lasts!

Mum2Ela · 02/06/2006 15:48

The little girl across the road (she will be 4 this month) was still having a 2 hours nap in the afternoon until 2 weeks ago and the only reason it stopped was because she started nursery full time! (ok, I know you wanted morning nappers but really, a 2 hour nap at aged 4?)

My DS is 18 mths and I am lucky to get an hour a day out of him!!

HarpsichordCarrier · 02/06/2006 15:51

yep. dd1 had a morning nap of two hours until January when I moved it to the afternoon. She is just turned three, so she was 2.8 then. she would still nap in the morning if I let her. and does if we are in the car or something. but I moved it because she has pre school in the morning two days a week.

Bomper · 02/06/2006 16:11

My dd2 is 2.3yrs and still needs a sleep in the morning, she can do without if we need to go out, but will often sleep in the car or buggy. It's great as it means I can get the housework done (or go on Mumsnet Grin in the morning, then go out for a bit in the afternoon before picking the others up from school. Long may it continue I say!!

Gem13 · 02/06/2006 16:27

Mine is 2.3 and has 2 hours usually from 12-2. It all depends on what we're doing though. Sometimes she'll sleep from 10-12, others 2-4.

imaginaryfriend · 02/06/2006 16:32

My dd is very similar to nailpolish's. She's 3.8 and naps for up to two hours (no idea how long she'd sleep for if I didn't wake her!) between 1.30-3.30 pm. I've experimented recently with dropping the nap but she then flops round with no energy all afternoon, stops speaking around 5pm, then dozes off in her dinner. Literally.

imaginaryfriend · 02/06/2006 16:34

Sorry I didn't notice the emphasis on morning nappers. Why don't you change it to an afternoon nap if you're bothered?

kitegirl · 02/06/2006 16:35

my best friend's ds is 2.2 and sleeps for 2 hours in the morning from about 10am. if he doesn't get his morning sleep he is a terror and he sometimes takes himself to bed.

Surfermum · 02/06/2006 16:37

DD used to sleep 11-1 until she was about 2.10. It used to be a real rush to wake her, feed her and get her to playschool. At the point I started to wonder if it was normal she stopped needing them! On the one had it's good to have a couple of hours to do things, but I have found it's a lot easier to plan days now as I don't have to factor in a snooze.

Marne · 02/06/2006 17:11

DD1 (2.4) has a nap most mornings from 11 till 12.

CaptainDippy · 02/06/2006 18:20
