Tantrums - Support and advice needed!

Okay, she's only 12 months old... I just don't know how to handle my beautiful, sweet angel child when she transforms seemlessly into some kind of screaming banshee when removed from a dangerous situation / a breakable object etc. I explain to her before I remove her or the object from harm but still get this awful tantrum following it.

Please can anyone give me some advice on how I should handle the tantrums?
I understand why she is having them, I just don't know how to react. Obviously I'm going for damage limitation now so can anyone tell me a means by which I might prevent her turning into a toddler who tantrums every 5 minutes?

ignore - at this age it is rather cute I think (far too used to screaming 4-yr old). Just find something else to do (the paper/cup of coffee!), and when she has finished give her a little hug and something else to do.

Distract - redirect her to something more alluring.
